New Poll: Santa Monicans Skeptical of Local 11

new survey of more than 400 likely Santa Monica voters shows that most Santa Monicans are deeply skeptical of UNITE HERE Local 11. A sizable majority of Santa Monica voters disapprove of Local 11’s support for new hotel developments, influence with the City Council, and use of disruptive tactics to enact its development agenda.

Public opinion runs contrary to Local 11’s self-serving agenda to build more unionized hotels and increase union dues revenue. More than 62 percent of Santa Monica voters oppose Local 11’s push for more tall hotels, while almost 58 percent of Santa Monicans believe the union should have “less influence” with the City Council.

The people of Santa Monica are especially tired of Local 11’s disruptive tactics, including early-morning bullhorn use and noisy protests. More than 73 percent of Santa Monicans “don’t support” such activities, despite the union’s claims.
